Poetry Interpretation

Poem:Do Not Stand At My Grave & Weep
Author: Mary Frye

In this poem the author is trying to provide some type of consolment to her loved ones so that on the day of her death they wont cry for her. In the poem she states "Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep". With this she means that she is not lying there underground on the grave,so why should people stand and weep for her if she is not there. She also states that she is the wind blowing, the gentle Autumn rain, and the soft starlight at night. She means to say that she is free and happy and that she should not be weeped for because she is not gone, she is here and she is happy.

If I could have done something for those who lost there loved ones in the Triangle Factory Fire, I would have them read this poem. This poem would have provided hope for some of the people when they were in grief. It would help them believe that even though their loved ones were not there with them physically they were there spiritually. In addition to that, it would remind them that their loved ones would no longer have to suffer with terrible working conditions at the Triangle Factory.
